When computer technology was young, creating usable systems was deep magic. It was done with all sorts of indecipherable letters and symbols and spells and hex codes. Strange machines filled buildings and had actual magnetic core memory. Bits meant something and a chosen few knew how to read them in their raw, unadorned form.
A young, would-be apprentice studied the then-few bound volumes that carried the seeds of techno-wisdom and pondered the arcane volumes produced, in those days, by the great IBM and Magicians like Donald Knuth. He learned to weave the symbols of APL with the formulas of FORTRAN IV and to combine letters and numbers according to the rules of COBOL. He was taught by the SICP Masters to speak great spells with a LISP. He created real systems in PL/I that ran on mini-computers that were kept in secret chambers. He assembled usable programs on the first generations of micro-computers. He learned BASIC and Visual Basic. Then came C, Smalltalk, C++, and, later, C#. Growing in skill, he learned Python and was technical reviewer for a significant book on it.
Years later, we have risen farther and farther from the machine-level and work closer to the user's world.
Tron taught us that Users are real and that we should honor them and help them with our technologies. Our work exists to make users lives easier. Tech is not an end in itself. Thusly, we were led towards better software architecture and design. We were given new, higher-level, tools like data flow diagrams (DFD), object-oriented programming (OOP), Unified Modeling Language (UML), agile methodologies, unit testing, and Domain Driven Design (DDD) for modeling, designing, and implementing reliable systems that actually help people.
From these origins, Tobwiz Technology has evolved. Our young protagonist is now that company's CTO. At Tobwiz Technologies, we still know the old spells and can speak in the ancient, arcane languages of yesteryear. We can also work in the newest, most advanced, frameworks and the latest hot, new programming languages.
